Character Counter reports the characters, words and lines in the text you paste, all at once.
Use it to keep a meta description under 160 characters, fit a social post inside its limit, or check the word count of an assignment.

Formats, limits and behaviour
What each count measures:
- Characters are counted including spaces, with a separate line for the count without them.
- Words are whitespace-separated groups; punctuation stays attached to the word.
- Lines are counted by line breaks, empty lines included.
- The text is processed in your browser and never sent anywhere.
When to choose this tool

It performs no linguistic analysis: abbreviations, compounds and emoji are not treated specially. Emoji and some symbols look like one character but can count as several.
Small things that help
- A 150 to 160 character range is the safe target for search result descriptions.
- When writing to a word count, draft first and trim after — it is faster than writing to the limit.
- The no-spaces count tells you the real ceiling in forms that limit characters.
Privacy and data handling
This tool runs entirely in your browser, so what you type is not sent to the server. The only request that leaves is a counter with no content in it. Third-party advertising cookies may be present on the page, and they cannot read your input.
